One of the places not to be missed in Mallorca is the island of Dragonera, a small island in the area of Andratx, which has been a natural park since 1995 due to its beautiful corners and the great variety of species it contains.
La Dragonera is a small island of about 4 km2, 700 metres from Sant Elm, in the municipality of Andratx. Since it is an island, you have to reach it by private boat or by "La Margarita", a famous wooden boat, which covers the distance in 20 minutes and starts from Sant Elm.
There are three lighthouses on the island, which can be visited by different routes. Most impressive is the route to Na Popis, the highest point of the island, which is about 350 m high. From this point, one can enjoy beautiful, breathtaking views: the whole island and its most peculiar places, as well as the entire coast of Mallorca.
The excursion to Sa Dragonera can also be done with children, as they can get to know all the animal species that live on the island: all kinds of birds and the famous "sargantanas mallorquinas". You can also take the route to the Tramuntana lighthouse, which is the shortest route with magnificent views of the whole of south-east Mallorca. In this area, you can often see groups of dolphins playing freely with the waves of the yachts.
